Swine Flu

Tyrel woke up sick Sunday morning and stayed home from church. I just let him sleep because I thought that would be best to help him recover. The batteries in the thermometer were dead but I knew he was running a temperature. Sunday night we tried to sit him up for Sean to give him a blessing and he passed out. He came to and was scared and started breathing really fast and was hyperventilating. We had a pediatrician in our ward come look at him and he told us he needed to be hospitalized for dehydration. I didn’t think a fever would dehydrate him so much in just one day. He direct admitted us so we didn’t have to wait through the emergency room drama. They pumped him full of fluids and he was doing much better on Monday morning. He tested positive for Influenza A, which they are classifying as SWINE FLU, and also strep throat and pneumonia. He stayed home from school all week and drank lots of water, gatorade, and Sprite to keep from getting dehydrated again. Luckily, no one else caught it from him. The worst part for him was that he had to miss his last two soccer games of the season.

Shooters Soccer

My aunt just sent me a Photoshop tutorial that taught how to make this layout based on an NFL ad in a magazine, so I thought I would give it a try. It took me quite a while but I like how it turned out. I must say, it would be so much faster and easier with a template, but it did teach me how to use some new tools in Photoshop so I'm glad I did it.

Tyrel has had a pretty good soccer season this year in his first year of accelerated soccer. We had a game in Logan on Friday that I was a soccer mom/chauffeur for. I had 5 boys with me and did get there on time. The coach (and the boys cards) were late and come to find out, the coach had been on the phone with the other coach trying to get directions and he was giving our coach bogus directions! The nerve..... So, then the coaches come over to the refs wanting them to call the game since our team isn't all there. So, the ref gets on the phone with our coach and gives him the right directions and doesn't call the game (he didn't know that the other guy had been giving bad directions). Anyway, we beat them 3-1. The other coach was mad because the game didn't get called (after we all drove 3 hours to get there through rush hour traffic and accidents on the freeway). I don't think they have won any games because they are at the bottom of the division, but how satisfying would a win be that was a forfeit that you caused?? HUH? I don't get it.

Saturday Tyrel had a game in Orem that was a tough fought battle ending in 0-0 score. Then they had a game on Monday against American Fork (I think) that we lost 2-3. We really did play a better game than them. We had way more shots on goal but we overshot them 90% of the time. The net just needed to be another foot taller and we would have creamed them. I think they had way too much adrenaline every time they got it down there. Also, we were down 3 players so had no subs which always makes for a long hard game.

There are just two more games left this season. Hopefully they can finish the season off well.

Sadie Hawkins

Travis got asked to Sadie's this year. Chelsea and Courtney came over one night while he was gone to a young men's activity and left a trail of gum throughout the house. Then they had tons of gum all over his room with a poster that said "I'd be BLOWN to PIECES if you would go to Sadie's with me" He was supposed to start unwrapping to find the wrappers with letters on them to find out who his date was.
He decided to write a little pirate thing to answer her and we almost burned the house down while we were burning the edge of it. You can see at the bottom center where we got a little carried away. Travis and I were both blowing to get it out and just made it worse. I had to end up getting a wet washcloth to put it out. LOL. He had Trevin dress up in our pirate costume to deliver the note. Trevin was supposed to ask for the "scallywag" when he went to the door, but he forgot because the girls were so excited and busy taking pictures of him.

You may notice something funny about the group picture below. I'm not going to tell, leave a comment if you figure it out. Anyway, they went to the Anderson's for dinner and then went on a treasure hunt. Oh, the theme was PIRATES just in case you didn't figure that out already. Travis said the dance was really fun and he had a great time.

The first thing he said to me when he came home was "Chelsea's hair was so cool!" she had it in little braids with beads in the front, kind of like Captain Jack Sparrow hair. I love this picture of them.

Isn't this the cutest kit to scrap these with? No, it isn't one we designed, it is from Scraps by Andrea and I thought it was perfect.

2nd Place at the Pinewood Derby

Trevin took 2nd place at the Pinewood Derby this year and he was so excited! This is the last year for him and Sean to make a car together and we almost ran out of time. We only got the car 1 week before the derby. They usually leave it in our mailbox about a month before, but this year, we ended up being a little rushed. He painted it yellow and we did black vinyl stripes for it. Since it was Steelers colors, we had to put the number 36 (Jerome Bettis' number) on it. I guess we should always wait until the last minute because it ended up being the best car he has had so far.

I can't believe he is almost through Webelo's and will be a real boy Scout in just a few more months!

Patriots Football

We almost had a tragedy at our house this year. I had signed Trevin up for soccer this fall but kept waiting to hear when Elk Ridge flag football signups were. Usually it starts after soccer so I wasn't too alarmed or anything. Then, one day Trevin comes home from school (only 1 week into soccer) and said all his friends are having practices for football. So, I call my friend that is the Elk Ridge sports director, and ask when football signups were, and she tells me that Salem recreation isn't letting Elk Ridge have their own teams this year and that football practices are already started for Salem and the games start the next week. I ask her if she knows if it is too late to sign up and she told me to give it a try.

Well, he can hear my whole 1/2 of the conversation and leaves the room sobbing because football is his favorite sport to play and his flake of a mother didn't sign him up. I call down to Salem and they are still taking players (luckily). I think it was because they had done it during soccer and they were short on team rosters because there are probably at least a few others like me thinking it isn't going to start for another month.

I got him signed up and he even ended up on a team with two of his really good friends so that was good. Unfortunately, his games are all on Tuesday's and Thursday's and his soccer games are all on Thursday's too. I hate it when they overlap sports like this. If I would have known the seasons were going to overlap this year, I wouldn't have signed him up for soccer. So now we have paid our money for soccer and he only got to play 2 games. I think there might be one other that doesn't conflict so maybe we can get him to that one.

He was the center for the first few games with his Patriots team and now the coach seems to be moving them all around to different positions. He is having fun and I guess the bright side is that since the season is earlier this year, we won't have to freeze our behinds off at the games like we have other years.

Lots to say but little time to write

Well, there are lots of things going on the last few weeks to write about, but that makes it so there is not a whole lot of time to write. Tyrel and Travis both finished their Eagle projects right before school started. I scrapped Travis' stuff so I'll tell you about it now and I'll tell about Tyrel's when I get it scrapped.

Travis did a book drive for a local elementary school. His goal was to collect 250 books. He was going to start with our ward and then move to the Stake if he didn't get enough. He got a total of 578 books from just our ward. It was amazing and we had people calling us for weeks afterwards wanting to still donate books. Thanks to everyone for your support. After he got them all collected. He spent a couple days down at the school with troop members and friends looking up all of the books in order to level them for reading so they could be sorted into the different grades. Then they were all stacked and arranged for the teachers to pick up. The school was so extremely grateful and excited to get them because they have a lot of new teachers this year with very small book collections, so it will be great for the teachers and especially for the kids.



For young women's last week, we went to the Newman's for Lucia to teach us how to make pies. I remember before they went on their mission how good her pies were so I have been waiting for them the whole time I've been in young women's to get back from their mission so I could have her teach my girls how to make them. It was fun and the pie crust really was the best I've ever had. Even my kids that don't like crust think it is very tasty and have eaten every last bit of it. Thanks Lucia and I hope we didn't make too big of a mess for you in your kitchen.

Soccer is in full swing for both Trevin and Tyrel and I just love (not) that the city decided to overlap flag football with soccer this year instead of starting it after. I guess we won't have to sit through games in the snow, but if I would have known, I would have made Trevin choose one or the other. He lost his first two games for football, but they won their last one. We watched Todd and Haylee's boys for the game Thursday and I snapped these cute pictures that I had to scrapbook. They also came to watch Tyrel's soccer game on Friday night.

I couldn't believe how much Kaiden enjoyed both the football game and the soccer game. He sat and paid attention, cheering and asking questions through the entire game. He was pretty excited every time the goalie got the ball and loved to see how far he could kick it. He was a little confused at the football game as to why there was no tackling going on so we had to give him a lesson on what the differences are between real football and flag football.

Tyrel's team has won all of their games so far and look really good. I can't believe how much he has improved since the tournament in June. He has advanced a ton and is looking really good. The games were fun to watch.

I spent the weekend (in-between soccer games) scrapping at the hotel with my friends. That is how I got all of these layouts (plus a few more older ones) done. We had a great time and learned some new things. I actually learned a couple good tips that have already helped me.

I Love A Parade

Well, not really me and Sean doesn't really like them either. But, the kids wouldn't miss getting to go sit with Granpa LaMarr while he announces the Onion Days Parade every year (at least the years we are in town anyway).

We went down this year and got to sit right with the announcer under the awning in front of the pool. The little kids had a great time collecting candy and the older boys enjoyed watching the drill team from the high school. LOL. I think the biggest cheers were for Cosmo the BYU cougar and for the missionaries. The weather was great and we all had a fun time. Afterwards we had a BBQ and grandma and grandpa's and the boys spent some time at the carnival. Tyrel scored getting some Steelers trading cards and was excited about his purchases.
