Sean had his first Elder's Quorum outing today. They all went shooting out by the Payson Dump and had a great time. Doug was able to bring some sniper rifles and machine guns from the SWAT team, plus they had lots of clay pigeons and shotgun ammo. Sean said Doug also brought a game thing that two people shot pistols at the same time trying to flip the targets back and forth. You can see it in the picture below, bottom right corner.
Trevin had a basketball game this morning. The other teams assistant coach has been an assistant coach for a couple of different teams Trevin has been on and I hope Trevin never gets on his team again. He got kicked out of a football game a few times and I'm surprised he hasn't been kicked out more. His son and one other kid on the team (the one with the mouth guard) felt it was necessary to tackle our team throughout the game, then they would throw up their hands, and throw a fit when they got a foul called on them. It was totally unneccessary. We were tied at half time. Our team was down by 5 at the end of the 3rd quarter. We caught up and then moved ahead by 2 or 3. With about 45 seconds left, the two bully kids from the other team tripped over each other and took each other out. The dad/assistant coach had a come apart at the poor ref thinking our team should have been called for fouls on the two kids that couldn't get up off the floor (drama queens). He got right up in the refs face and I thought he was going to deck the ref. The ref told him he saw what he saw, the kids had tripped over themselves and that this wasn't the NBA playoff game. The main coach had to pull the dad back out of the way, then magically when they didn't get their way, the 2 kids hopped up and continued to play. I think it is awful when parents act that way and when they teach their kids to act that way also. I was so glad we ended up winning by 2 at the end. It wouldn't have been fair for the other bully team to win. I'm sorry for you other people that I know who have kids on that team, nothing against you, I just don't like that dad from previous experiences on teams that Trevin has been on. Oh and by the way, these photos are not from today's game.
Today, I got to go to Orem and have lunch with my locker partner from high school. It was fun to spend a couple hours and catch up with Teresa's life and what she is up to now. I can't believe our kids are so old. It seems like we just barely graduated some days. Thanks for the fun time and yummy lunch at Applebee's.
Trevin had basketball practice tonight and the rest of us hung out and watched American Idol. I think I'm finally caught up with the laundry and house chores I missed while I was gone over the weekend.
Travis gave an awesome lesson tonight for Family Home Evening on standing up for what we believe in, and being an example of Jesus Christ at all times. He is going to be a great missionary one day!
Well, I think our DIGIscrap retreat was a success! It was so much fun for me and everyone else seemed to have a good time too. We did lots of teaching, played some games, gave out some prizes, ate yummy food, had some awesome guest speakers, did a few challenges, and even Heidi and I learned some new things too. We met some most awesome people and are looking forward to doing it again soon! We are hoping to put one together in Mesquite at the end of April and would love to do one in Park City and Salt Lake this year too. We are also trying to find out about the fun cabin at Bear Lake to see if we can do one up there. It would be sooooo fun!

We took the Scouts to the Bean Museum on Tuesday to work on the first part of their patch and finish up their collecting belt loop. We did the "watch a video" portion of the patch and sent them home with their signed papers to go the 2nd time to fill out the worksheet with their families.
We had bookclub at Leslie's house on Wednesday. Her lemon dessert was yummy and we had quite a few people there to discuss our book "The Girl With The Pearl Earring". Every night when I read, Sean asked me where the other earring was, he is a funny man. Just like when I read "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", he wanted to know what kind of tree it was. I kept telling him it really wasn't about the tree. Come to find out, she really did have both earrings.
Sean and I went to Grandma Bowles funeral this morning. It was good to be able to show our support to the Haskell family. I spent most of the day baking stuff and getting the finishing touches on stuff for our retreat. I started my new digital scrapbook class tonight at the high school. We have 8 students this time. Heidi was up here because our retreat is in the morning, so she came with me and helped me. I think this will be a good class. They seem to all be fairly computer literate, so hopefully we can cover a lot of ground.
I'm so excited for our retreat tomorrow. I hope I don't leave anything home.
Several people in our ward have been telling us to make sure we go to the Carl Bloch display of paintings of Christ at BYU. All I've heard are amazing reports about it. Most of these people were older than us, so I was a bit worried about my teenagers thinking it was boring. But, Sean was all for it so we reserved our tickets for it. We were going to go last week for family night, but lo and behold, you can't reserve tickets for the same day you want to go, so we reserved them for tonight. We were going to take another family with us and Travis was going to take a date, so we needed 11 tickets. They are free, but you can only reserve them in blocks of 5 or less. So, I got 2 blocks of 5 tickets and then was going to get 1 more for Travis' date, but I forgot to change the 5 to a 1 so ended up with 15 tickets. We never got around to inviting the family we were going to invite and the girl Travis was going to ask out had to work, so we ended up with 10 extra tickets and 2 extra parking passes. Sean announced it in Elder's quorum on Sunday and had no problem giving out the extras.
So, we spent some time in Provo/Orem, had dinner at Pizza Pie Cafe and then headed to the art museum. The kids were out of school, so we thought it would be fun to make a whole day of it.
They had I-Pads you could rent that gave information, scriptures, snippets from general authorities, pictures of the cathedrals the paintings came from, hymns, etc. We rented 3 of them and I have to say, if you go, definitely get there early enough to rent one. It made it so much more real and spiritual than it would have been just walking around looking at the paintings. The information available on the IPads was great. Trevin and I shared one because he had his headphones with him, so he got one ear bud and I got the other. Tyrel got his own and Travis had a headphone splitter with him, so he and Sean were able to share one with the splitter. I let Trevin run ours, he was much better at it than I was. We listened to everything on the IPad presentation and it took us about 1 1/2 hours to go through the whole thing. I wouldn't recommend taking little kids because it takes quite a while, but I think 8 and up could handle it quite well, especially with the IPads. If you have headphone splitters, make sure you take them and some extra headphones so you don't have to rent as many IPads. I was impressed that the kids wanted to talk about their favorite parts on the way home. They all loved it.
Trevin had a basketball game this morning. His team is playing really well together and they were able to pull off a win! He is a fairly good defensive player, he needs to work on shooting though.
Our freezer finally died. What a pain that was. The boys and I cleaned out the inside freezer on Monday and got as much as we could in there. The meat was still frozen pretty solid, so we left it all in the dying freezer hoping they would keep each other frozen. Sean picked up a used one that he found on KSL tonight and we were able to save some of the meat, but all the deer meat was no good anymore. With as cold as it has been outside, we probably would have been better off just sticking it outside.
Travis ran Trevin down to Baskteball practice tonight and there was a sign on the door saying it was cancelled. He hasn't been able to make one practice yet. I forgot the first one, he has had two that were cancelled, and he was sick for the other one.
We went to dinner with the Bradshaw's tonight. They are so awesome. It was so fun to just sit and visit with them. Sean and Barry are so much alike with just saying things how they are, nothing sugar coated with those two. We laughed and got really full and had a great time. We committed to doing it again soon. I hope we do because it really was fun.
When we got home, Trevin was asleep in the basement and I couldn't find the other two. I was baffled for a minute because they usually call and tell us if they are going somewhere and it was odd that they had left Trevin. Then I remembered it was Young Men's. That is where they both were. I'm glad that they were responsible enough to remember and get themselves there because I totally spaced that it was tonight.
We had planned on going to the BYU Museum of Art for the art display on Christ tonight, but when I went to order tickets, there weren't any left for tonight so I ordered them for next Monday, but in the meantime I had to come up with a plan for tonight really fast. Usually the first Monday, we set goals for the new year, and Trevin didn't do that last week when he had the lesson, so I figured I would. I searched high and low on every computer to find the list that we had typed up last year. Apparently, we need to do a better job of posting or writing down our goals. Everyone could remember one or two they had set last year, but not all of them. I knew right where mine were because I made a scrapbook layout with them, blogged them, and also had them on my computer desktop for a few months. Those being the same few months that I did pretty good with them. Once I quit putting them on my desktop, I quit following through with them.
For family night, we reviewed first of all what we had accomplished last year. Travis and Tyrel both received their Eagle's, which was one of their goals. Trevin got his All 20 Award and Arrow of Light, which were two of his goals.
My goals last year were as follows
Exercise at least 3 times per week (Tyrel will be my exercise buddy) - this one lasted about a month and a half
No 2nds on food at mealtimes, sugar and sweets only on Family Night - same with this one
Drink 32 oz of water morning, noon and night - this is one that I did really well on the first few months, then, it was hit and miss depending on how busy I was on each day, sometimes I did good, others I didn't
Teach a digi scrap class through community education program - I did this in January and another one in the Fall - YAY FOR ME!
Go on a date with each of the boys at least once a month - Tyrel was great at following through on these, there were some months I went on 2 dates with him. Travis and Trevin did well the first half of the year and then they both kind of fizzeled out the rest of the year.
Do "My Life" project through the year - this was a scrapbooking project with 52 projects. I did follow through on this one for the most part, I think I missed 2 weeks, but one of those was "What is your nighttime routine?" Most people have little kids so they scrapped themselves reading to their kids each night. My kids would laugh if I tried to read to them at night at their ages, so I didn't think that scrapping me washing my face and brushing my teeth would be too exciting for posterity, so I just never did that week. I can't remember the other week I missed, but it was something similar that I just didn't do.
Scrapbook 52 pages for the family recipe book - I had all the photos taken for this one, but only ended up with 48 pages done. I finished up the last few this week, so it is now complete!
Blog Daily - I did fairly well at this one. I know I misssed some days, but I hit most of them.
Go on a weekly date with Sean and a monthly temple date - We did our weekly dates all year and we improved greatly on our temple attendance. I think we got 8 or 9 out of 12, which is much better than our 2 or 3 from previous years.
Here are our goals for this year, so next January, we will be able to find them. LOL! Actually, we all figured out a place to post our lists so they are constant reminders hopefully.
Sean - read scriptures daily - attend temple once a month
Lori - attend temple once a month - do Indexing once a week - go on date with boys once a month - lose 15 pounds (I'm rewarding myself for this one with Photoshop CS5 once I accomplish it)
Travis - find a job - get Patriarchal blessing - take MATC classes
Tyrel - turn in school assignments on time - find a job - get driver's license
Trevin - get Faith in God award - receive Priesthood - pray nightly - turn in school assignments on time, get planner signed
Trevin must have had the flu, because Travis ended up with it today. He got up and went to school and then texted me 1st period asking me to check him out because he felt like he was going to explode. Poor kid. It is no fun to be sick. He slept the entire day until about 6:30. I finally woke him up and told him he needed to wake up and drink something and stay awake for a few hours so he could sleep tonight.
I felt a soft little touch on my shoulder at 5:26 am this morning and a whisper from Trevin letting me know he had thrown up. He has always been my child that is really good about making it to the bucket or the toilet, but not so lucky this time. So we got his sheets thrown in the washer and he slept on the couch the rest of the morning with a blanket and the bucket. Poor kid. He looked pretty pale all day long and didn't go to school or basketball practice or Scouts. I hope it was something he ate and not the flu. He did hold down lunch and dinner even though he still said he didn't feel so hot.
Heidi came up today and we spent the day in Orem getting things confirmed and ready for our retreat later this month. We got our room reserved, the conference room setup done, meals decided, goodie bag items round up, and a rough schedule done. We still need to round up some more prizes and put the final schedule together. Then we decided we wanted to do a little hybrid project and it is going to be so cute and fun. I worked on the templates for it in the afternoon and hope to get the sample made this week sometime.
Travis got his first ticket on his way to school today. It was through no fault of his own though. He was on his way to school and got pulled over. The registration on his car was expired (over 90 days ago) and he didn't know it and we didn't know it. Poor thing. Luckily, the officer let him off easy and didn't impound the car, which he said he could do since it was over 90 days. I don't remember ever getting the registration thing in the mail. I don't know where it went. We've got it all taken care of now though, so they are back in business driving to and from school and all around town.
